Signs & Symptoms of Hearing Loss

Recognizing the signs early on is crucial for prompt intervention. Here are some common symptoms to watch out for: Difficulty in Understanding Words: Struggling to understand conversations, especially in noisy environments, can be a red flag for hearing loss. Frequent Request for Repetition: If you find yourself frequently asking others to repeat themselves, it might be an indication of hearing difficulties. Volume Increase on Electronic Devices: Needing to turn up the volume on your TV, radio, or phone constantly could signify a decline in hearing capabilities. Social Withdrawal: Individuals with hearing loss may withdraw from social activities due to communication challenges, leading to feelings of isolation.

Hearing Test

A hearing test, also known as an audiometric evaluation, is a diagnostic assessment designed to measure an individual's ability to hear different sounds and frequencies. This evaluation helps identify any hearing loss or issues, allowing for early intervention and tailored solutions.

Signs & Symptoms of Hearing Loss

Pure-Tone Audiometry (PTA):
Purpose: Measures the softest sounds an individual can hear at different frequencies. Process: Involves listening to a series of tones through headphones and indicating when the sound is heard. Use: Provides a detailed assessment of hearing thresholds and helps identify the type and degree of hearing loss.

Speech Audiometry:
Purpose: Evaluates an individual's ability to hear and understand speech. Process: Involves listening to and repeating words or sentences spoken at various volumes. Use: Assesses how well someone can hear and comprehend speech, aiding in the determination of communication difficulties.

Tympanometry:
Purpose: Assesses the movement of the eardrum and the function of the middle ear. Process: A probe is placed in the ear, and air pressure is varied to measure the response of the eardrum. Use: Helps identify issues such as fluid in the middle ear or problems with the ear canal.

Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) Test:
Purpose: Measures the sounds produced by the inner ear in response to a stimulus. Process: A small probe is placed in the ear, and a series of sounds are presented. Use: Screens for hearing loss, particularly in newborns and young children.

Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) Test:
Purpose: Evaluates the electrical activity of the auditory nerve and brainstem in response to sound. Process: Electrodes are placed on the scalp, and a series of clicks or tones are presented. Use: Helps assess hearing in individuals who may have difficulty participating in traditional audiometric tests.

Hearing Aid

hearing aid

Hearing aid is a device designed to improve hearing by making sound audible to a person with hearing loss. Hearing aid technology is constantly evolving and becoming increasingly advanced. Modern hearing aids are small high-tech computers, which are constantly being refined and developed to provide a better reproduction of natural human hearing. This progress allows for increasing numbers of sophisticated features to be built into the hearing aids and provide improved sound reproduction. The ability to adapt the hearing aids to individual demands with respect to your daily environment and type of hearing loss is constantly improving. Among the various hearing needs concerns, we know one of the age-old concerns is to be able to hear and understand speech in noisy situations such as at meetings, crowded restaurants. Today’s hearing aids possess more powerful noise reduction ability and enable more precise frequency increments’ adjustment so as to enhance speech clarity to help you hear better. A complete range of hearing aids, coming in different styles with varying degrees of power ensures that every individual can find the most suitable hearing aid to address their hearing need. In general, the higher the extent of hearing loss, the larger and more powerful the hearing aid required.

Cochlear Implant

coachler implant

A cochlear implant is a small electronic device that helps people with moderate to severe hearing loss to perceive sound. The implant has two parts: an external portion that sits behind the ear, and a second portion that is surgically placed under the skin. The implant uses a mild electrical current to stimulate the part of the ear that doesn't work, and bypasses damaged parts of the ear to deliver sound signals to the hearing nerve. This can help improve the ability to hear speech without needing visual cues, recognize everyday sounds, listen in a noisy environment, and find where sounds are coming from.
